Our Chapter
Our club has been present on Northeastern’s campus since as early as 2011! Originally founded as the Northeastern Chapter of Strong Women, Strong Girls (SWSG), the national non-profit under which we operated, officially merged with Girls Inc. in the Fall of 2025.
Girls Inc. is a nationally significant pro-girls’ leadership organization inspiring young leaders to be strong, smart, and bold. This exciting merger expands Girls Inc.’s reach, bringing SWSG’s multigenerational mentoring model into a broader network of research-based programming proven to support participants' development into healthy, educated, and independent adults.
Our chapter is made up of passionate Northeastern students
who believe in the power of mentorship. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive space where individuals of all gender, cultural, and economic backgrounds can connect, grow, and support one another.

Community Outreach
Beyond mentoring, our chapter is dedicated to creating spaces where connection, collaboration, and community thrive. We believe that meaningful outreach begins with bringing people together — to share experiences, celebrate diversity, and uplift one another.
Throughout the year, we organize events that foster belonging and strengthen our ties to both the Northeastern and greater Boston communities. From campus collaborations that highlight cultural expression to initiatives supporting local organizations and businesses, our outreach is grounded in inclusion and empowerment.
At the core of our work is the belief that growth happens collectively. By engaging in community-building activities and service opportunities, our members continue to learn, reflect, and lead with purpose — as mentors, students, and change-makers.
Beyond mentoring, our chapter is deeply committed to building community and sharing our mission across campus and within the Greater Boston area. Each year, we organize events that bring people together to celebrate identity, empowerment, and connection.
Chapter Meetings
Our chapter prioritizes mentor development; it's ingrained
into our culture. We meet weekly at a set time to focus on
preparing for mentoring for the upcoming week and continuously developing our mentors.
Each member of Girls Inc of Boston and Lynn at Northeastern commits two hours weekly to ‘mentor development’, the umbrella term used to describe our chapter’s continued education in respect, equity, diversity and inclusion (REDI), consisting of discussion-based presentations at each chapter meeting as well as a weekly small group ‘best practices’ meetings where mentors read selected resources on topics relevant to mentoring based on the curriculum provided by the Girls Inc. team.
Recognizing the demographics we serve, with majority black and brown mentees, high participation of dual language learners, and within socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods and schools, our chapter commits itself to continued education to combat unconscious bias and meet the needs of our community.

Social justice is at the heart of every engagement within our organization as we dedicate ourselves to community empowerment.
Through Girls Inc. of Boston and Lynn, mentees are inspired to think critically about social issues, enact radical change, and challenge the boundaries of what they believe they are capable of. Girls Inc.’s renowned cycle of mutual empowerment ensures that our impact will be felt for generations.
Together, we are better equipped than ever to provide the next generation of strong, smart, and bold leaders with the skills, confidence, and community they need to thrive.
